The source code of the songs, player and tools that power D-Pad Hero has been released. See the video on YouTube for more information.
If you’re a fan of retro gaming (and why would you be here otherwise, unless you’re a spam bot?) on any or all platforms (including new ones like iPhone), I recommend checking out Retro Gamer magazine (http://retrogamer.net). Find out about the history and making of classic games, read interviews with the game developers, get up-to-date on uncurrent (80s/90s) events in gaming… There’s even a section dedicated to homebrew games (D-Pad Hero was reviewed in the “Game Boy issue”).

If you download and play the ROM, you can use the D-Pad to turn sound channels on/off. OK, it’s not exactly D-Pad Hero 2, but I find it fun nonetheless.
More MP3s are now available at http://www.dpadhero.com/songs/other. These songs aren’t in D-Pad Hero, but who knows, one or more of them might make it into a sequel or something…

Quite a few have asked whether we have any plans to put D-Pad Hero on a real cartridge.
No, we don’t. But since the game is free, anyone who wants can produce cartridges for it. Maybe the people at http://www.retrousb.com are interested? They also have devkits that you can use to copy D-Pad Hero and other free games (such as this one) to cart yourself.

Thanks to thefox’s comment to the previous post, I’ve made a new build that should fix the issue with “random” joypad input when D-Pad Hero is played on the most recent versions of Nestopia. You can download it here.
