I see there are some reports of the game glitching up in Nestopia; specifically, that the Start button is pressed even though it isn’t.
I don’t really know where the issue lies, if it’s Nestopia or D-Pad Hero. (Did anyone try it on real hardware yet? I guess that would be the ultimate test.) We’ve tested D-Pad Hero with version 1.3.9 on Windows and it works fine. It also works fine with Nestopia 1.3.6 on Mac OS X. I have verified that it’s glitching up in Nestopia 1.4.1 on OS X, though. If you could post the OS & version where the game acts weirdly, that would be helpful, thanks.
I get the problem in Nestopia 1.4.1 on Mac OS X (with Emulator Enhancer 2.3, so I can use my USB gamepad). It’s not completely “random,” either. It seems to happen when I’m pressing the D-pad a lot.
I’ve been playing on a physical NES for maybe a half hour or more and haven’t noticed any glitching so far…
Did you follow the guide on the download page (Under Mac)?
Try that. It sure works for me !
Remember to backup your newer Emu-stuff before replacing
‘em with the ol’ ones.

This “feature” of the NES hardware was only recently found, might have been implemented in the latest version of Nestopia. So to put it short, if your controller reading routine only reads the controller once, it won’t work correctly when using DPCM.
Nestopia 1.4.1 without Emulator Enhancer, using a hacked together NES controller. Mac OS X 10.5.5.
It only seems to happen when there are notes coming down.
