D-Pad Hero Released! Random pause glitch?
Feb 03

Reviews are generally positive so far, but a few have commented that the game is too hard.
Do you think that’s the case?
Are you playing with a keyboard or a game pad?

What’s the best medal collection you’ve achieved?

Obviously we have been playing the game for quite some time during the testing phase, so maybe we’ve just gone blind difficulty-wise… But with a game pad, it can be mastered, trust me.

Difficulty levels would be nice, instead of just ramping difficulty within the same song. Also, I’m getting random pauses in NESTopia, which is really annoying… has anyone else had this problem?

  2. krumy says:

it is REALLY hard. i imagine it’ll get easier but right now my hands are numb from playing all four songs. i’m playing with the wiimote, and i got no medals.

    great stuff, LUV IT!

  3. Crimson says:

Playing with controller (using NES emulator on Wii homebrew, so Classic Controller)
Finding it very tough, but I guess I just don’t have enough experience with the game so far to actually be that good at it yet.

Hey guys! The game is looking pretty great, but yeah it is kind of a little hard. You don’t have enough time to see all the arrows and as you look at the screen the arrows look kind of similar and i mess up lol (im playing this on psp by the way). Maybe you sould put different colors other than only red to make the arrows noticable and different. Or maybe make a hard or easy mode but that might be asking for too much. And you should include more songs since the game is a bit on the short side. But anyways its a really great game non-the less and I hope you try to polish it more and add more content. Thanks for a great new nes game!

  5. Dance Dance Revolution has light, standard, heavy, and challenge songs. Amplitude has mellow, normal, brutal, and insane. You have heavy/brutal; now can you make light and standard or mellow and normal?

  6. Anthony says:

I’ve been playing with the keyboard, and it’s pretty hard. Somewhat because the notes don’t feel on sync, but mostly because it’s about getting used to a new style. I’ve acclimated fine though.

Something I’ve noticed though; you can hold down multiple directions and get a trigger off of all of them. For diagonals, this is pretty alright, but if you’re able to hold down all four directionals, then it’s cake. I’ve tried to stay legit, but it is pretty tempting for the complex parts.

I like it a lot so far. I think that it’s hard, but not impossible. After only playing it twice, I got a Bronze trophy.

I think that there are a lot of things that this game needs though. It’s way too small at this point. There need to be unlockables. Personally (and I think I speak for a lot of people), I would LOVE to see some songs from different NES games in there.

It’s a good game with lots of potential, but it needs more content.

  8. matt says:

…its hard, but who cares?? this game kicks ass! and im sure with practice will be all be getting much better. i want to help make 2.0

  9. Hallokjelke says:

Yup, I think it’s a bit too hard for n00bs like mee. I’d like to start playing, and then juice up the difficulty level as I progress from n00bsville to Rocksville. I think you’re on it already and that the new version will contain different difficulties as well as a bigger music library. Great release guys! You make an old school gamers heart melt! Instant vorspiel classic!

  10. eliott42 says:

i just downloaded it tonight and am an experienced rom user, and even with my joypad i found this a bit difficult. i’m still trying, and loving it, but definitely not getting it right yet.

  11. Yvain says:

I saw a vid on a French geek blog, I haven’t already tested the game, but it seems very difficult, at least on the vid…
I’m gonna download it and try, hope I’ll have fun and no stress ;) !

  12. MangakuH says:

Too hard? Maybe, but hey! that’s the fun!
Guys, you ROCK! I love it! I hope you put more songs in the next release (Wait… There will be a new release, right?).

  13. Mark says:

I think the difficulty is pretty spot on. It’s hard, but you gradually improve as you play more.

I’m playing on a Nintendo DS lte.

  14. jlacan says:

Love it! But also think it’s too hard. At least three different levels of difficulty for each song would be ideal, but if that’s too much work code-wise, then maybe you could just make each song be a different level of difficulty (e.g., GNR = easy, Jacko = medium, DP = difficult, etc.). Other than the difficulty thing, my biggest request would be for multi-player capability.

But thanks again — the game is awesome!

  15. garrett says:

bduddy — I’m getting the same random pauses in NEStopia (using a control pad). VERY annoying indeed.

  16. Jorge says:

Yep. A bit too hard. A few easy songs to get used to the game would be nice. It’s also hard when some notes don’t match the tempo, especially on fast parts…

    But I love it! :D

  17. Ramza says:

Hello from Argentina, its a little hard, but with practice you can make a high score

  18. Andreas says:

    @garrett
Did you follow the guide on the download page (Under Mac)?
Try that. It sure works for me (Mac OS X)
Remember to backup your newer Emu-stuff before replacing
    ‘em with the ol’ ones.

  19. k2k says:

I think its too hard. needs difficulty settings and more songs.

  20. Spaqin says:

Well, I played D-Pad Hero on my PS2 and I couldn’t get bronze medal without ‘Turbo’ function (bronze medal with ~3000 errors, ha.)

  21. Tindy says:

I’m playing with just my standard keyboard - so far I’ve managed two silvers :D It is really hard, but NES wasn’t ever really about making it easy without cheats :D

More songs (and easier ones) would be rocking, though - like, get a certain minimum on a certain number of songs and unlock them.

  22. Aaron says:

There are much harder music games out there. DJ Max, Beatmania, even Guitar Hero itself; DPH gameplay is most similar, I think, to the PSP game Beats, and Beats is harder. (2 “frets”+open note x 4 buttons versus 4 directions+null x 2 buttons) I think you should add only one or two easier charts for control acclimation, but then focus on adding harder tracks; easy songs are completely ignored once players have a decent grasp on the controls, while difficult songs make up the meat of gameplay.

  23. zerothis says:

Way too easy. But difficulty levels might help quite complaints.
